Express Yourself Mix Series Vol. 5 w/ Joaquin

This months guest if definitely one of my peers that I respect. Chances are if you are between the age of 18-25 in LA, you propbably heard him spin. Joaquin is all over but not in the sense that he does events that are a dime a dozen, more so because he is incredibly talented and in high demand.

I have always admired Joaquin for staying true to himself and his preference in music, which was one of the main reasons he was at the top of my lists. I always got a sense that he was still doing himself when he played for crowds 1000+. That level of confidence is hard to find especially when its complimented with humility. I’m very honored to have him as a guest for this mix series, so lets get on with the show.

Message From Joaquin: “What’s great about the “Express Yourself” mix series is that it encourages the mixer to play what they’re really feeling and not necessarily what the masses want to hear in the clubs.  It may just be me, but I’ve noticed more and more that the divide between what I’m into and what’s “hot” has become greater more and more over the years.

I started the mix with some moombahton, which has blown up since last year and is really becoming dynamic and not just slowed down dutch house.  I threw in some UK funky, which is a really dope blend of house, garage, and dubstep sounds.  I put in a healthy dose of dubstep, which has taken 6 years to gain the attention of pop culture.  I also peppered in some r&b and hip hop, including some Chris Brown because he looks like what would happen if Sisqo and Dennis Rodman had a baby.
